Institutions

A comprehensive approach to conflict transformation requires the existence of institutional structures that promote dialogue and facilitate the resolution of disputes in a constructive and transparent manner.

TransConflict’s work on institution-building is currently comprised of the following elements:

Background

TransConflict works to reform and consolidate institutions – whether municipal or communal – in areas vulnerable to instability and outbreaks of violence, particularly those marked by intra- and inter-ethnic divisions.

TransConflict provides technical assistance to help develop sustainable institutional capacity and promote a participatory approach; one that strengthens the strategic policy and budget planning functions of municipal governments.

TransConflict also undertakes comparative research into the role of institutions in transforming conflict, regularly producing policy papers and recommendations designed to enrich the understandings of good governance and their importance for conflict transformation.
