What is Model Security?

In light of current discussions about Serbia’s relations with, and involvement in, various international security bodies, such as NATO, the OSCE, the EU and the UN, TransConflict Serbia has recognized the need to provide a platform for debate on a variety of key security and defence issues. Through a series of interactive exercises simulating the workings and internal decision-making procedures of these respective organisations, participants will have the opportunity to become acquainted with their specific missions, purpose and areas of competence. By focusing on key security and defence issues, particularly in crisis situations, these simulations will provide valuable insights into both the capabilities and constraints that shape the policies of international security actors, plus the forms of co-operation and conflict that increasingly characterize global politics.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Model NATO Serbia are to:

  • Increase awareness and understanding of the role, organization and activities of NATO in the defence of its shared values and interests;
  • Highlight the major military-security and political issues currently facing NATO member states, with a particular emphasise on the impact of NATO’s new Strategic Concept on the Alliance’s security and defence policies;
  • Provide practical insights and understanding into the capabilities and constraints that shape the policies and responses of NATO member states, particularly when faced with complicated crisis situations;
  • Simulate patterns of cooperation and conflict that characterize intra-NATO diplomacy, thereby demonstrating the need for effective diplomatic, economic, and military cooperation in an unfolding crisis situation.
