Main Aims and Objectives
CDR Somalia is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation, dedicated to fighting poverty, poor governance, and caste and ethnic cleansing – all of which have blighted the lives of the entire Somali people. CDR Somalia provides leadership and support to peacebuilding processes, seeking to find a solution to the Civil War through debate, dialogue and training.
Upholding the Principles of Conflict Transformation
CDRSomalia is a problem solving initiative, focusing upon positive debate, dialogue and reconciliation. In order to find solutions to the on-going Somali problem, CDR Somalia believes in fairness and impartiality between the respective parties as one of its main approaches to conflict transformation.
Where and with Whom?
CDR Somalia is focused on the endless Somalia civil war, in particular the Southern and Central parts.CDR Somalia’s head office is located in Mogadishu, whilst it has three other offices in central towns, such as Adado, Galkacyo, and Dhuusa-Mareeb. CDR Somalia works with the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.
Main Activities in the Field of Conflict Transformation
CDR Somalia recently organised a conflict resolution seminar in Amara (a small village situated in the Lower Mudug region) where two clans fought. CDR Somalia helped solve the conflict through dialogue between elders in the area.
From this mediation process, CDR Somalia learnt the importance of:
- Speaking/listening to build understanding and trust;
- Problem-solving focused on core issues;
- Joint action to express a common agenda;
