Segal Conflict Management is a socio-political business aiming to promote conflict resolution and encourage non-violent dispute resolution within societies and between states

Upholding the Principles of Conflict Transformation

In a rapidly developing international system with many influential actors, there is a need for innovative and creative thinking to better understand and manage conflicts.

To address these challenges, Segal Conflict Management develops dialogue platforms to conduct a structured conflict transformation process and focus on achieving tangible outcomes.

Working mainly in the intractable, violent Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Segal Conflict Management realized that to truly transform conflicts there has to be a thorough, constructed long process in any project.

Where and with Whom

Segal Conflict Management works mainly in the MENA region and Turkey. The projects involve participants from Israel, Arab countries and Turkey. The work itself is conducted online and onsite (Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Turkey)

Segal Conflict Management has many partner organizations from all over the world; a list can be found on its website.

Main Activities in the Field of Conflict Transformation

Segal Conflict Management engages in many projects on the p-p level that bring young Israelis, Palestinians and Arabs to a joint dialogue in which they go through a process of conflict transformation. The goal is usually to change negative perceptions and engage in a joint creation of a sustainable project.

For example:

  • The MENA Leaders for Change program – The program was designed to provide skills, empowerment, and communication platforms for young and promising leaders throughout the MENA region. The project makes innovative use of social media, and Facebook in particular, as a tool for conflict management. The participants engaged in an on- and off-line dialogue process that was carefully designed to change their perception about the “other” and to build understanding and hope for a joint, peaceful future. The participants worked on joint projects and continue their communication via the online platform. The Project was implemented with Search for Common Ground, The Peres Center for Peace, and with the support of the U.S. State Department.
  • ME Forum – The ME 2.0 Forum provides a unique platform for young committed Palestinian and Israeli business professionals and entrepreneurs dedicated to promoting and enhancing reliable and sustainable cross-border economic cooperation. The participants engage in dialogue sessions and study tours and work together on joint economic endeavors that strengthen ties between prominent economic leaders and the two societies. The projects is implemented in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty.
  • High School Negotiation Training – A program that aims to teach high school students about the concepts of international political negotiation the project addresses 15-16 year old youth. It aims to challenge perceptions such as zero-sum thinking and “us” vs. “them” mentality, and to provide tools for understanding political processes. The project is implemented in cooperation with the Israeli Center of Negotiations (ICON) and the Institute for National Security Studies.
  • Turkish-Israeli Civil Society Forum – The Turkish-Israeli Civil Society Forum is a Track 2 initiative that brings a team of Turkish and Israeli experts as a response to the crisis in bilateral relations. The group members who come from academia, journalism, business and conflict management, have been looking for ways to repair and reaffirm relations. Following several meetings and in-depth research, the team decided that the most effective way to promote bilateral relations would be through a “bottom up” approach – creating and encouraging civil society cooperation that will stand firm in the upsets of political instability. The first step in achieving the above result is to create the TICSF website that serves as the platform for creating a solid civil society network. In the long run, it will help foster better understanding and a change in perceptions and perspectives of the people. The long-term outcome will be bilateral relations independent from political conjuncture. The TICSF vision is a stable, cooperative and fruitful relationship between Israel and Turkey. The project is implemented in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty.
  • A New Foreign Policy Paradigm – This project combines research and practice and offers a new framework for Israeli foreign policy. The project has several stages including in-depth research by experts from different disciplines and implementation within the political system. The project is implemented in cooperation with Mitvim – the Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies.
  • US Embassy Negotiation Training – This negotiation training program offers US State Alumni basic negotiation tools, theoretical understanding, and skills that they can use in their daily life. The program aims to promote the value of negotiation as a main tool in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to promote cooperation between prominent Israeli and Arab social/business/political leaders. The methodology includes interactive lectures, simulations and games. The project is implemented in cooperation with the Israeli Center of Negotiations (ICON) and the US Embassy in Tel-Aviv.
