The Centre for Peacebuilding and Poverty Reduction Among African Indigenous Peoples focuses upon:

  • Pursuit of human rights and those of indigenous people;
  • Good governance and elections;
  • Conflict transformation and peacebuilding in Africa.

Upholding the Principles of Conflict Transformation

The Centre for Peacebuilding and Poverty Reduction Among African Indigenous Peoples upholds the principles of conflict transformation by:

  • Working with relevant UN agencies on expert mechanisms to promote and advocate for indigenous peoples’ rights in Africa;
  • Strengthening the capacity of African youths in conflict resolution, peacebuilding and rights advocacy;
  • Establishing African youths clubs for human rights, through partnerships with governments, which carry out workshops/seminars for youths in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon and Kenya;
  • Consulting on conflict and peacebuilding, and access to justice and electoral systems.

Where and with Whom

The Centre for Peacebuilding and Poverty Reduction Among African Indigenous Peoples has worked with the UN, international development agencies, governments, faith-based organizations and NGOs. It has worked with youths in a variety of countries, especially in introducing the importance of gender into conflict transformation processes.

Main Activities in the Field of Conflict Transformation

The Centre for Peacebuilding and Poverty Reduction Among African Indigenous Peoples’ main activities in the field of conflict transformation include:

  • Inter-religious dialogue in the middle belt of Nigeria;
  • Participation in capacity-building programs for youths in the Niger Delta;
  • Organization/facilitaion of workshops on gender rights and conflict transformation in Islamic States in Nigeria, Niger and Chad;
  • Cordination of seminar on”Nigeria in peacekeeping operations in the 21st century”, organized with the Nigerian Defence Academy”, Kaduna, Nigeria.
