Areas of Expertise

Youth Parliament of Jammu and Kashmir has expertise in a range of areas, including:

Main Aims and Objectives

The purpose of the YPJK is to address issues which are socially degrading the moral and ethical values of society. Moreover, it emphasizes holistic youth development and capacity building based programmes.

The YPJK is looking forward to youth participation in decision and policy making matters, so that they can have a strong voice in governance matters and be global change makers.

Upholding the Principles of Conflict Transformation

The modus operandi of the organisation towards upholding the Principles of Conflict Transformation include understanding the basic problems and working with an optimistic proclivity by redefining the meaning of conflict. The ongoing conflict is a vast phenomenon that requires multi-level thought processes and a committed approach. In this regard, the YPJK strives to primarily understand the factors underpinning the conflict, provide scope for debates and gauge the results.

Where and with Whom?

YPJK is based in Kashmir, which is itself geographically divided into three main regions – Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh. YPJK works in all these places, with a motive of reconciliation and development of the whole of Kashmir. These three regions include places like Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Jammu, Poonch, Kashtawar, Leh, Kargil. In addition, YPJK works with partners in Muzafarabad, Pakistan.

Since YPJK is an independent and apolitical organisation, any liaison with political and governmental organisations is avoided. The Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) and Adobe Youth Voice are some of the organisations with whom YPJK works.

Main Activities in the Field of Conflict Transformation

YPJK works on a platform created by its own members and utilises contacts in a proper and efficient way. In the field of conflict transformation, YPJK works on awareness programmes, the formation of peace clubs, supporting community development programmes, workshops on conflict mitigation and child development policies.
